Life on Purpose | #MyFridayStory №94

Living life with purpose is life-changing.

There is ample evidence of the benefits of living life with a purpose. In one studypublished in the Sleep Science and Practice Journal, researchers from Northwestern University in Chicago found that having a strong sense of purpose predicted better quality sleep among older adults. The researchers went on to highlight the added mental and physical health benefits associated with having a purpose. People with purpose were also more likely to pursue healthy activities that contribute to their overall wellbeing such as taking walks or relaxing with friends.

You might ask if there is any other way to live, and I’d agree with you. But many people aren’t conscious of their purpose, and some live their whole life without ever having one. We should not confuse purpose with other goals such as career success and becoming wealthy. A life purpose is a deeper, more authentic quest. The purpose expert, Richard J. Leider explains. “Genuine purpose points to the end of a self-absorbed, self-serving relationship to life. When your authentic purpose becomes clear, you will be able to share it with the whole world.” He offers this simple formula for achieving purpose:

Gifts + Passions + Values = Purpose

Folks who live their life on purpose place enormous importance on people and little on material stuff. They have a life-balance that’s evident in every aspect of their life — from career, to family, to relationships, and in their personal needs. They are always striving to reach their full potential, in all areas. They are happy to share their gifts and to use them to bring joy to others. They are unselfish with their time and have a strong desire for a better world.

Finding your purpose is different for different people. It could occur at various stages within your life, such as at the birth of a child, or changing careers, or even after a traumatic event such as after the loss of a job. It could occur in your 20s or in your 60s, or it could happen a few times throughout your lifetime. According to Barb Leonard in “What is Life Purpose?” the secret to finding our purpose lies in our ability to reframe life’s questions over time. Doing this throughout our lives makes us pose different questions, with different possibilities.

Living life on purpose makes waking up in the morning more fun and exciting. It creates its own inertia propelling you into action each day. Using that action to do good and make a difference, is surely a quest worth pursuing.

As Ralph Waldo Emerson said

“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honourable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”

Have an awesome weekend!😉
